New for 2006 — Accommodation Grant Scheme
This year BT has introduced a new €50,000 accommodation grant scheme. This scheme has been designed to help with the accommodation costs incurred by students who have to travel considerable distances to compete in the event at the RDS in Dublin.
These costs can prove to be an obstacle to many and can be the real reason why some students do not enter a project into the competition. In recognition of this BT has responded by creating a grant scheme under which schools can apply for assistance towards accommodation costs incurred if they have to stay overnight in Dublin.
This is a demonstration of the company’s ongoing commitment to the project and its desire to make the competition accessible to schools from all parts of Ireland.
Schools eligible for a grant may be awarded either €100 for an individual entry or €200 for a group entry, subject to a maximum grant of €1000 per school and other applicable terms.
In order to be eligible, a school must be located in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland and 70 kilometres or more from the RDS Showgrounds, Ballsbridge in Dublin 4, as measured in accordance with the service on www.aaireland.ie/routes.
Terms and conditions apply, please check out www.btyoungscientist.ie/rules. BT’s decision on payment of grants to a school or project is final.
New for 2006 — Subsidised ‘Healthy Option’ lunches for students.
A ‘Healthy Option’ Meal Menu will be available in the RDS for the first time at Young Scientist 2006.
Participating students will be supplied with a €4 voucher for each full day they are at the exhibition. These vouchers can be used in part payment for one of the delicious meals on the Young Scientist Healthy Option Menu.
The selection of hot meals will include Quiche Lorraine with salads, Spaghetti Bolognaise and Mediterranean Pasta Bake with salads. Each meal includes either an apple or a banana, plus a fruit juice or bottled water.
Students who go for the cold option, can chose from a selection of wraps or filled baguettes. A fruit smoothie completes this meal deal, or if preferred, a fruit juice or bottled water and an apple.
The full menu price for the ‘Healthy Option’ hot meal is €9.50 and €8.50 for the cold version. However the €4 vouchers from BT will mean that participating students pay only €5.50 and €4.50 respectively for their meals.
The ‘Healthy Option’ meals have been introduced by BT following discussions with students, parents and teachers at last year’s event.
